With the freedom to go anywhere and everywhere at your own pace, you can’t beat a campervan for exploring New Zealand. We’ve put together a handy list of Do’s and Don’ts to get you started on your adventure.

  • Visit the out-of-the-way places you can't get to by public transport
  • Take your time
  • Take some maps - Internet based GPS isn’t available in remote locations
  • Use the many affordable camping grounds around New Zealand - book ahead for summer
  • Be prepared for all types of weather with "four seasons in one day"
  • Travel in the shoulder (Mar-May & Sep-Nov) or off-season (Jun-Aug) to save $$

  • Pull over and let faster traffic by
  • Look out for signs telling you what is and isn’t allowed
  • Freedom camp only where it is legal
  • Use public toilets if you don’t have a self-contained vehicle

  • Leave behind rubbish or other waste
  • Drive faster than the speed limit
